Father Of Civil Engineering

To the World, John Smeaton was the first self-proclaimed Civil Engineer and is often regarded as the "Father" of Civil Engineering. He was an English Civil Engineer responsible for the design of bridges, canals, harbours, and lighthouses. He was also a capable Mechanical Engineer and an eminent physicist.
In India, Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, who was an Indian Civil Engineer, Scholar, Statesman and Diwan of Mysore (1912 to 1918) received India's highest honour, the Bharat Ratna, in 1955. He was knighted as a Knight Commander of the Brutish Indian Empire(KCIE) by Kinge George V for his contributions to the public good. 15 September is celebrated as Engineer's Day in India in his memory. He is not only known as “Father of Civil Engineering” but also the “Father of Indian Engineering”. He is held in high regard as a pre-eminent Engineer of India. He was Chief Engineer responsible for the construction of the Krishna Sagara dam in Mandya district as well as Chief Engineer of the flood protection system for the city of Hyderabad.
